Designer – Full-Time
Summary of Duties: Designer shall collaborate with J&H Project Managers, Engineers, Consultants, Superintendents and Clients as assigned by the Design Department Manager. Designer shall be responsible to plan, coordinate and create complete construction drawings for assigned projects.
Work Hours
Hourly based on an average of a 45-hour work week.
Office hours – Employee shall have a flexible start and finish time but shall be in the office for the core hours of 7:30am – 3:00pm+/- for project team coordination and engagement.
Designer Responsibilities
- Meet with the project team to develop and fully understand the design requirements of the project.
- Analyze and identify project risks.
- Gather and assemble the necessary measurements, dimensions, or other information required to complete the drawings.
- Provide the team with practical design recommendations based on the project requirements, budget, site, and recent trends.
- Proficiently use CAD and/or Revit to produce construction-grade drawing sets.
- Prepare preliminary design drawings for work acquisition and bidding.
- Prepare drawings, specifications, and construction documents. Construction documents shall be:
- Detailed with appropriate information for construction with dimensional accuracy.
- Contain specifications as required.
- Contain appropriate details, sections, and notes consistent with J&H design standards.
- Review shop drawings as needed.
- Maintain complete and accurate project documentation.
- Research permit requirements, coordinate with the local AHJ, fill out appropriate applications, and submit drawings in coordination with the Project Manager.
- Periodically visit construction sites; check progress to ensure J&H crews are building according to the plan and standards of the company.
- Work with the Project Manager and Site Superintendent to practically resolve design and construction issues expediently.
- Building code review and analysis.
- Coordinate consultants in collaboration with the project manager.
Education/ Experience
- Associate’s degree or certification program in architectural drafting, or similar.
- 5-10 years of experience is preferred.
- Proficient in computer-aided design (CAD) software.
- General knowledge of building design, specifications, codes, and structural analysis.
- Ability to apply the fundamentals of sketching and design.
- Mathematical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Great analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
